The Dream of Ibrahim (AS)
Why do we celebrate Eid ul Adha? Sunnat e Ibrahimi is an Islamic ritual in which Muslims sacrifice an animal in the name of Allah. It reflects the event from the life of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
Prophet Ibrahim (AS) had a dream one night in which Allah (Subhanatallah) ordered him to sacrifice his son. He disregarded the nightmare, considering it a trick of Satan. However, he had the same dream again.
This time Ibrahim (AS) took the dream as an order of Almighty Allah. He took a knife and rope with him on Mount Arafat. The Prophet (AS) summoned his son Ismael (AS) to Arafat. After reaching a barren part, he told his son about his dream. Ismael (AS) was an obedient son and agreed to sacrifice his life in the path of Allah.
Ibrahim (AS) fastened ropes around Ismael (AS) and put a blindfold around his own eyes to skip watching the painful scene. When he was ready to slaughter his son, angel Jibril (AS) took control of the situation. The sacrifice of a lamb took place in the path of Allah instead of Ismael (AS).
It was a miracle and a divine test from Almighty Allah for Ibrahim and Ismael (AS). Since that incident, Muslims perform Qurbani and follow special rules and practices to remember the heart-melting deed of Ibrahim (AS). Qurbani has a high religious value. It provokes us of pure Islamic values, commitment to good deeds, purification of the soul, and asking forgiveness from Almighty Allah.
